‘Striking’ 45-Story Tower Across From MiamiCentral Submitted To UDRB

The developers planning downtown Miami’s First and Fifth tower have submitted plans to Miami’s Urban Development Review Board.

Plans call for a complete restoration of the remaining portion of the historic Salvation Army Citadel building, while a later addition would be demolished.

According to an architectural narrative submitted by the architect, the “striking” new tower is being designed to resonate with the Citadel’s architectural heritage and the elegant nuances of Venetian Gothic style.

First and Fifth is planned to rise 45 stories, 517 feet and include:

  • 526 residential units
  • 6,638 square feet of commercial
  • 161 parking spaces, in an ‘inviting, pedestrian friendly’ 5-level podium

A hearing before the Urban Development Review Board is scheduled for November 20.

ODP is the architect.

Oak Row Equities is the developer.

I love the plans to turn the government area, riverfront, downtown, and Brickell into one cohesive downtown that connects along 2nd Ave (name TBD), Miami Ave, and Brickell Ave—the three main arteries of the city. This transformation will extend across I-95 to the west side of Miami, with stunning architecture blending historic charm and modern style.

The vision to make this a top destination with new parks and seamless connections is finally happening, linking these areas and maximizing the potential of the Miami Metromover. Exciting times for the city!

This is the kinda detail a podium should have

That looks amazing. I just love when developers use engineered facades. Such a better solution than concrete block and stucco. Plus, it makes the most sense to use as little stucco as possible on high rise buildings for maintenance and repair issues. Those planters in the sidewalks look nice, the planter edges near the corner should be curved, the current design will cause all the landscaping to be trampled over in no time at all. Hopefully the leave enough room to excavate underneath 6th street and the bright line station for the Miami Beach metro rail line. That is of course if it hasn’t already been excavated for other uses.

Park West or Overtown?

Park West. There’s a big “Park West” sign in front of this site along NW 1st Ave

Neither give it a new name, it’s in between, not west of the park, not quite overtown yet, “Grand Central”

Enough with the New York City names…….

Not everything revolves around new york. Grand Central was a pretty popular venue in the area before it shut down~10 years ago. Because you know, there used to be a mythical time when rock/indie/metal bands with real music would come to Miami regularly, rather than every single place these days blasting the same obnoxious top 40, reggaeton, or mumblerap slop

It’s the northern end of the historic core, more specifically Government Center.

It may be counterintuitive when there will be a huge park coming east of here, how about central or New Park?

With the podium matching the height of the MiamiCentral Brightline station, and the tower matching the height and style of nearby buildings, this fits it nicely and with intention, like the riverside trump hotel international in Chicago, which was explicitly designed to match nearby buildings with it’s setbacks.

Love to see it! There’s still hella empty retail space over here but I noticed two new retail spaces are about to open soon. A dumpling shop right next to Chick-fil-A & what looks like a beauty bar / beauty spa next to the Parkline’s South Tower’s entrance.

The UDRB doesn’t have to do anything here… unlike every “ICONIC” Arquitectonica box and podium they should be excoriating.
