Art Basel Miami Beach Economic Impact Similar To Super Bowl

Art Basel Miami Beach’s local economic impact hit a new record high this year, according to the SFBJ.

The report cites research by BizCosts.com, which is a unit of Boca Raton’s The Boyd Co.

Total economic impact rose 9.4% this year, to $547 million.

In 2020, the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee released research stating the economic impact of hosting Super Bowl LIV that year was $572 million.

The BizCosts report says that the number of private jet arrivals during Art Basel surpasses that of a Super Bowl.

Similar in the sense that out of towners can witness the fragility of our city’s transportation infrastructure in both events

Private jets and rented limos sure are fragile!

We surely need an above ground subway system in Miami to cover all downtown, Midtown, etc plus the beach from south beach to north beach and connect Miami to Miami Beach.

They're not broke hipsters

Not WE, YOU WANT. Obviously all these people and their money pouring in for Art Basel are OK without gov’t. trains.

above ground subway–gosh, is there a word for that?

We have an above ground subway in Miami – the Metro Mover, with suburb lines along the Metro Rail

Miami’s doing just fine and dandy without the government train junk. Read the article.

Yes they’re doing fabulously with their big government mandated and funded interstates!

We can witness their fragility when they freak out over seeing DJT flags.

We need an Art Basel museum all year round

State Government has cut all funding for the Arts and Art Museums. And currently we do have several Art Museums year round in Miami, Design District, Nort Miami and Miami Beach.

A stable Art Basel museum would be amazing, it should be an amazing modern structure in line with Art Basel

Yes! Brickell would be a great spot for a new art museum.

Brandonian

Not really. We have an Art & Entertainment district for that. The place where Art Basel currently gets displayed Downtown is where the museum should be. Brickell is the financial district and not appropriate for that.

Big cities have art galleries and museums all over, not only in a single district — Remember when Chelsea was considered the art district of Manhattan? You can find art all over NYC though, including uptown and downtown, like in Tribeca. How about west of Brickell?

Brickell is the last place where that would make sense. Park West and A&E yes. What about those parking lots in front of Kaseya Center? Now those would make sense.

You realize that Art Basel is a commercial enterprise, right? They actually sell the art. It’s not a museum, nor could it be. Also, there are plenty of art dealers who already have studios all over town and sell art.

Most buildings in Maimi are branded by commercial enterprises. Art Basel is not a museum but you can surely have it as such.

Maybe a MoMA would be a better one!

What the hell would be so different about what we already have?

I wonder what the economic impact during Copa America was. Miami was super busy that weekend, with malls being packed and activity everywhere.

Is this the same for Urban Beach Week? /s.

and all of the owners supported the environment like Leonardo Di Caprino 😂

Good news considering Miami has gotten out of the loop for Super Bowls. The NFL now has a real hard on for LA and SF getting them. Gotta reward them for getting new stadiums built (with taxpayer help).

And Basel is a yearly event, so the cumulative economic contribution is much greater. Art > athletics.

“Art” as in, selling a banana for thousands. I suppose it’s more of art than most murals in this city.
