Amazon Reportedly In Talks To Lease Large Office Space In Wywnood

Amazon could become the latest tech giant to move to Wynwood.

The company is reportedly in talks to lease between 60,000 and 80,000 square feet at the under-construction Wynwood Plaza, according to Commercial Observer.

At the time of writing, the talks were for about 75,000 square feet of space, the report said.

About a year ago, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos announced he was moving to Miami.

Wynwood Plaza is planned to include:

  • 266,000-square-foot, Class AAA state-of-the art office tower designed by Gensler
  • 509 high-end rental apartments
  • 32,000 square feet of retail, including 6,600 square feet of outdoor dining
  • A half-acre outdoor plaza will be the largest in the Wynwood Arts District and one of the largest in all of Miami, designed by James Corner Field Operations

The towers have already topped off, and opening is planned in 2025.

L&L Holding Company and Oak Row Equities are the developers, along with project partner Shorenstein Properties and co-investor Claure Group, which will open a headquarters in the office building.

This is good but also hilarious considering Miami wasn’t a front runner a couple years back when they was looking for a corporate city

Miami wasn’t in the spotlight at that time like it is now. COVID showed everyone that, given the opportunity, everyone want to live in Miami! So now that demand has been confirmed, supply is coming!

Everyone wants to live here until they actually move here and then after a few years leave the city

You are so right. Miami has a very long way to go to truly compete as a global city. This town is a jungle.

More and more people have been moving in and are actually staying. Your assessment isn’t based on reality.

Adios – less traffic

Miami checked all their boxes before COVID. The entire process was a charade to see what municipalities would give the most incentives and then use those packages for bargaining power.

Wrong, Miami WAS a frontrunner. It didn’t win though, and in the end, the search was more hype than substance anyhow.

True.

Out of the hundred or so submissions, Miami was most definitely on the short list.+

My bet then was, having recently bought the Washington Post and having children in the Washington DC schools, they would move the Amazon HQ2 near where “the boss lives”. That is what happened.

Will these be core operations, or just some LATAM jobs?

World’s largest company leases a relatively small footprint in Miami… blog goes wild!

The bigger picture being that Jeff Bezos moved here, is investing here, and opening up office space here which he will frequent. Also, that it’s in Wynwood and not Brickell. Kind of a big deal.

And chooses and area with 0 transit access.

Not for long – and plenty of city shuttles going around

City shuttles are NOT a viable transit solution. Then again, neither is any Metromoober expansion.

Wow….he is either soooooooo stupid, and a terrible business man, OR
government train access is not as important as you think it is.

Corp decision makers mostly care about cost/sq ft, plus most employees will drive anyways.

It is sad to see what Wynwood was and what has become. Once a bohemian, arts district with true grit, now it may as well be downtown WPB. Shame.

It’s still a creative district. I’d argue that an Amazon office is better for the city than “grit”

Then move to Opa-Locka is you like grit.

You’re so right. The boutique shops just don’t compare to the crackpipes strewn about on the ground. Damn gentrification!
