Developer Says 444 Brickell Won’t Be Demolished Until 2028 ‘At Earliest’

Related Group says 444 Brickell will not be demolished until 2028 at the earliest, according to the Herald.

Demolition of 444 Brickell will allow for a new section of baywalk to connect two existing baywalk sections, along with a new tower.

The property has been designated as an archaeological landmark, as part of a deal to allow two towers to proceed next door.

Miami’s Historic Preservation Board was not given the power to alter development plans for the 444 Brickell site in the deal (which it would normally have for designated sites).

The board voted on September 3 to defer a hearing on Related’s plan for displaying artifacts on the site to January. Those items are currently being stored in the 444 Brickell building.

The developer is planning to build a revised riverwalk behind the new towers with “archaeologically inspired features.”

There will also be enclosed public spaces in the new development where some of the finds will be publicly displayed. The developer is additionally negotiating with HistoryMiami for public display of the finds.

Display cases with artifacts may also be created in the lobbies of the new buildings.

Displaying the findings in the new development is the best solution you can have. Not allowing a developer to build because you found a few rocks doesn’t make sense. I’m all for preserving but mankind has to continue to build and evolve just like they did during their time.

What an eyesore this building is, although I will always have good memories of capital Grille. I’m no fan of the architecture either but they will be good fillers…. other than the height of the tallest tower, it’s underwhelming architecture unlike the Aston Martin Tower..

Just turn the site into another dog park, just like across the street.

Well then, plenty of time to design something worthy of this corner, rather than the Baccarat blob…

Baccarat will be almost entirely glass. Unlike the Viceroy tower , which has lots of concrete. Both, It and Viceroy , will boast mirror like windows. As has Aston Martin. It will look spectacular!

The city should have made a public baywalk and river front since the 80s. Absolutely ridiculous

By 2028 people will be sick enough of that vacant building sitting there, blocking the baywalk, that all opposition to full development of the site will fade away to nothing but a couple of cranks.

This building is one of the last remaining eyesores on Brickell. Make it go away already. The Capital Grille needs a better location anyways.

Capital Grill will easily transition into the base of Baccarat Residences in mid 2028. Then that office tower will be demolished. To make way for Baccarat Hotel & Residences.

I wish there was a way to get the river walk connected sooner. Feels unfair that everyone has to wait until it’s convenient for the developer.
