400-Foot Tower Submitted To FAA Near Omni

Plans for a tower near the Omni have been filed with the Federal Aviation Administration.

The proposal was received by the agency on October 29.

According to the filing, the tower will rise 392 feet above ground, or 400 feet above sea level.

The site coordinates match a property that was reportedly sold to an affiliate of Sabet Group of Los Angeles in 2022. At the time, the SFBJ reported that the new owners planned to redevelop it.

In 2023, Miami’s Planning, Zoning, and Appeals Board voted to recommend approval of zoning changes to the site.

Am I the only word that can’t stand the word “OMNI”? What does that even mean anyways? Why don’t they just call it the A&E District like it is….

It’s a holdover from when the now-Hilton complex was the Omni Mall and Hotel. Old habits die hard.

So they named an entire neighborhood after a mall? It feels so dated, especially with the old “Welcome to Omni” sign, like a half-hearted attempt at place-making from decades ago….

Yes, the Omni International Mall was built in the 1970’s and it was the anchor to a very ambitious project that included shops, restaurants, hotels, a marina, and housing.
